STUDIO VISIT

FLOOR MERJENBURGH

THE PROCESS

Her process begins early. Mornings are dedicated to casting, allowing the pieces to be handled and developed within the same day. The rhythm of the studio shifts continuously. Some days are spent glazing, others refining or finishing, and at times, stepping back to organise the work.

Her practice is rooted in working by hand. Each piece develops through direct contact with the material, guided by observation and response rather than a fixed outcome.

FORM

The work centres on form. Organic shapes emerge through the process, set against a more controlled, rectangular base. This contrast defines the pieces, creating a balance between softness and structure.

Ceramic, particularly when worked at a thinner scale, remains a fragile material. This fragility is not avoided, but considered as part of the final result.

ON VIEW AT KAMER

Floor's work is presented alongside the Wandler collection at Kamer. Both explore the relationship between form, proportion and material. Objects and bags placed in dialogue, where structure meets ease and surface is given space to be observed.
